Since 19 May 2006, the percentage by mass of sulfur in the fuels to be burned must not exceed 1.5%.

Since 1 July 2010, only fuels with a sulfur content of 1.0% may be burned in SECAs.

Since 1 January 2015, only fuels with a sulfur content of 0.1% may be burned in SECAs.

From 2020, only fuels with a sulfur content of 0.5% may be burned outside the SECA zones.

Ship-to-ship bunkering can take place along the quayside at anchor or at sea. The capacity of bunkering vessels can range from 150 to 10,000 m³. Ship-to-ship bunkering is suitable for all types of vessels and is expected to become the main bunkering method for ships with a bunker demand of over 100 m³.

Among the various methods for in-port bunkering of LNG-fuelled ships, truck-to-ship transfer is currently the most frequently used bunkering method. The LNG trailer is connected to the ship using a flexible hose. Today this is the most widely used bunkering method due to the limited demand in combination with the lack of infrastructure.

Another bunkering method is shore-to-ship, whereby LNG is either bunkered directly from a tank or small station, or from an import or export terminal. Normally piplines are used to connect the LNG terminal with the bunkering facility at the quay.

Filtration of the medium ensures compliance with the specified level of purity for downstream processes. For this various screens and filters with different mesh sizes are available.

Durchgangsventile

HEROSE globe valves are available with a wide range of connections and material combinations. They can be equipped with additional functions, such as bellows seals for increased tightness requirements, or with a non-return function. With this combination, use of a separate valve can be eliminated.

If required, HEROSE pneumatically actuated globe valves can be equipped with an additional hand wheel, with which the valve can be opened or closed manually in case of loss of pressure. Optional seawater-resistant materials are available, which are ideally suitable for offshore use.

LNG Storage Tank

All tanks are either double or single walled IMO Type-C tanks. They can be placed on deck or inside the hull.

Cold Box including Gas Processing Unit

It contains all piping, valves and equipment to source LNG from the storage tank and manage the tank pressure. The gas processing unit evaporates the LNG and supplies the gas to the consumer.

Foundry has to be certified as producer by the classification society.

Three tests during the casting process covering a tensile test, V-Notch Test at minus 196°C and chemical analysis of the material.

The tests are witnessed and certified with a 3.2 class certificate depending on classification society.

All pressure bearing parts are 100% hydrostatic tested at 1,5 time of the nominal pressure.

100% seat tightness test according to DIN12266 for all assembled valves.

100% external leakage and functional test before delivery.

Functional and tightness test of each type and size under cryogenic conditions.

Inner and external tightness test to at least 1.1 time of the design pressure under cryogenic conditions.

All tests can be witnessed by classification societies.

Welding bodies into the piping should always be done without installed topwork.

All sensitive valves parts like disc, seats and actuators should be protected and handled with care.

Hydrostatic testing of the complete system should be done with a clean medium to avoid damages of sealing surfaces.
